Might Have Been a Masterpiece

by Endless Mike and the Beagle Club

lyrics

I had plans to be on time this time, I promise that I did -
but then I passed by my piano and - well, you know how that is.
And although it was all for nothing - nothing good came out of it -
It might have been a masterpiece if I had found an end.

You said, "We're in this together now - two bodies, just one heart."
But then the days got in the way and - you know how those days are.
Although we're back to where we started and it's starting off again,
I'm closer to believing it than I have ever been.

What's that advice about "whatever doesn't kill you"?
What's all that garbage about "learning from your fears"?
What's that ridiculous cliche' about "the lessons on the way"? -
Hey, let's pretend I'm saying that right here.

You must be tired - always standing, always waiting at the end
with a light outside the tunnel I keep digging myself in.
And now I'm back at my piano. Can you give me a minute?
My song found inspiration. I just need to finish it.
