Still that's little consolation when it comes to my own kids.

just how badly I'll have managed to damage the men they'll grow to be.

Everyone you've ever met how has been dignified and good,
well we know that they turned out that way in spite of how they should.
Still we find the spinelessness to find the worst excuset we could -
"Human nature's too complex to be understood."

Everyone who's never had to scavenge to survive
won an undeserved lottery before they even arrived.
So we made up the myth of bootstraps so we wouldn't have to deal
with centuries of social science data gathered in the field.

We know every rapist racist frat boy chanting "U.S.A"
had a lot of help to turn into the pigs they are today.
Still we find the spinelessness to find the worst thing we could say -
"Human nature's too complex to ever change."

We have the answers. We know the problems.
We know exactly what must change if we want to solve them.
Either no one really cares or we're too sold out to millionaires -
either way, we should be ashamed to let it end there.

What do all those founding values say about equality?
What good is a safety net without accountability?
Still we find the spinelessness to try to say that this country
is the home of the brave, the land of the free, sweet land of liberty.

That's bullshit - but it doesn't have to be.
